Youth Climbing at Urban Climb

The Urban Climb Youth Program invites aspiring young athletes to explore the world of rock climbing in a supervised and structured environment.

Classes are held weekly, during school terms. All abilities levels are welcome to join.

Age groups

The youth program is separated into 3* age groups.

Geckos: 5 – 9 years

Goannas: 10 – 13 years

Spiders: 14 – 18 years

Note: Under 13’s only available in QLD. Our Victorian program is currently limited to students of 13 – 18 years.

Skill groups

We offer a variety of classes, within each age bracket, which cater to differing levels of climbing experience.

All newly enrolled students begin in Skill group, our introductory class. Students can attend our bi-annual trial days and progress to our advanced groups: Development, Super & Youth Squad.

Benefits & Pricing


Initial enrolment in the Skill group is $34.85 weekly, as part of our no contract membership.

Membership rates vary for our advanced groups, depending on the required number of weekly classes.

New enrolments

Classes run in line with school terms. New enrolments are welcome to join the Skill group at any time.

Those looking to move up to advanced groups will need to wait to complete a trial day before they can move up from Skill group. Trial days are held twice per year, at the start of each school semester.

When are kids classes held?

Class locations and time will vary, depending on the program.

For those looking to join our Skill group, class times are as below

Geckos – Skill Group A (5 – 9 years)
  • Saturday, 7:30am – 9:30am
Geckos – Skill Group B (5 – 9 years)
  • Sunday, 7:30am – 9:30am
Goannas – Skill Group A (10 – 13 years)
  • Saturday, 7:30am – 9:30am
Goannas – Skill Group B (10 – 13 years)
  • Saturday, 10am – 12pm
Spiders – Skill Group A (14 – 18 years)
  • Saturday, 7:30am – 9:30am

Do you offer classes in Melbourne?


However enrolment is currently limited to students 13 – 18 years of age. This will expand to all age groups once our new Black Burn venue is completed in late 2021.

What happens during school holidays?

Classes are suspended during school holidays, however students are welcome to continue using their membership and can climb outside of term.

Students are also welcome to suspend their membership $5 per week for mid year school holidays or for free over the Christmas school holidays.

When are trial days?

Trial days for Development, Super and Youth Squad are held bi-annually, at the start of term 1 & 3.

Is there an age limit?

Yes, enrolment in our Queensland program is open to those of 5 – 18 years. For Victoria, our age limit is 13 – 18 years.

What gear is required?

All gear to get your kids rock climbing is inclusive with program! That’s right. Shoes, chalk and harnesses hire is on us.

What are the advanced groups?

In addition to Skill Group we offer Development Group, Super Group & Youth Squad.

These groups step up in training intensity, technicality and frequency.  They are available to students who qualify at a trial day which are held at the start of each semester.

What is Youth Squad?

Youth Squad is our elite training class, and is only available to the top 10 athletes of the Youth Program in each region.

Can under 13's climb at 13+ gyms outside of class?

Yes! Students of the Youth Program, aged 10+ can apply for a boulder pass after completing their first term of classes. Boulder passes an assessment item, and subject to approval by our coaching team.
